It is very gratifying to write in brevity about one of our 3 children. Ahmed is the middle one,
Hadeel is a couple of years ahead of him, and Hisham is 2 years younger. As individuals each one of them has a distinct, colorful personality. We feel blessed that they have reached a relatively plateau in their quest for changing their own lives those around them. They owe allot to their communities in the US and their country of origin, the Sudan .. We hope to present Hadeel, who is the leader of the flock in the months to come. Hisham would also be proud to touch base with SANC. Ahmed is the only one among our children who was born on Sudanese soil. He is very proud of where he came from. He visited the Sudan for the last time 9 years ago. In due time, he might be able to tell you first hand, some anecdotes about his encounters and memoirs in the Sudan . He vividly reminiscent the boxing lessons offered to him by the late Abdelatif Mohammad Abbas, who was a former heavy weight champion and the trainer of the national boxing squad. Ahmed continues to hold very dear to his heart his frequent chats with the veteran actor, Mekki Sinada. Sayda Dabora who is a long time neighbor and a gifted story-teller became one of his favorite figures in our neighborhood.. Ahmed is a very modest and charming young man. He goes to college at UC-Santa Barbara.. If everything goes well, he well graduate next June with a degree in Global Studies (International Studies). Upon completion, he will pack his jeans and hats heading for voluntary work in Morocco . Among his objectives is to serve as a community organizer in Moroccan rural areas. Such an opportunity is not available in our country. Besides, Ahmed wishes to improve his understanding of Middle Eastern history and contemporary politics. Upon his return, he wants to pursue a career in law. Ahmed's college experience has been a blend of study and voluntary work. When Barrack Obama appeared on the political scene at the 1994 Democratic Party Convention, Ahmed was ecstatic to see one of our own rising to prominence. From that day on, he became a ‘religious follower’ of the rising black star. That time he was right on target.
As soon as Barrack made the famous Illinois speech to announce his candidacy for President Ahmed subscribed to his program of Change. Ever since, he became one of his faithful 'foot soldiers'. Barrack was inspiring, kindhearted, and a true transformational figure. Millions of young college students were sold to him and managed to put him over the hump. He was blessed to have recognized the rising tide of history. While working on Barracks campaign, Ahmed managed to register 11 thousand new voters raising the bar to those around him. In recognition, he was elevated to the rank of Captain. Ahmed was able to strike a good balance between his school work and his campaign assignments. Those around him appreciated his diligence and team-work spirit. That qualified him to be promoted to a senior position in the hierarchy of the campaign management. He became one of the spokes persons for Barrack on UCB campus. We know how much he wanted to attend the Democratic Party Convention. But by then, the delegates had already. The Congress woman in Santa Barbara , Lois Capps was one of those who came to appreciate Ahmed’s stellar personality. He struck a good working relationship with her, and was ecstatic when she introduced him at a dinner party to the 'rich and mighty' of the Democratic Party in very flattering words.
A few weeks ago Ahmad called to break the news that he had landed a ticket to attend the historic inauguration of the 44 US-President, Barrack Hussein Obama. The Congress woman might not realize that she had made Ahmed's. He was indeed euphoric to say the least We are particularly indebted to her for taking our son under her wings. We would also be remiss, if we do not offer our gratitude to our friends in the US . A special thank is also due to SANC for the opportunity to write in behalf of one of our children. Ahmed would most certainly to in gratitude to SANC as soon as he returns form his ‘tour of duty’. We hope the similar opportunity would be offered to Hadeel, Hisham and their peers in the Sudanese community. . On a final note, we wish to thank you very profusely for this opportunity and to those who are gracious enough to read this introduction. Sincerely Susan Ali Abdel Magid Ali Bob |
